Lightworks Wedding Photography by Damian Davies
The first weddings I photographed were back in the days of film when you couldn’t just check the back of the camera to see if the exposure was correct. And this photo (below) is one from one of the first weddings. Many natural images were taken but we felt one or two formal in one of the staterooms would be worthwhile. The wedding was held in the beautiful surroundings of Knowsley Hall, near Liverpool and was the marriage of my friends Ed and Liz. A beautiful location and a stunning wedding.
Since then, I have photographed hundreds of weddings in the UK and abroad, each one special and distinctive in its own way. And that, for me, is the excitement of photographing weddings. It’s a major event in the couple’s lives, one that so much hard work and thought has gone into, and I am there to be a photographer capturing the spirit, laughter and enjoyment of the event so that the couple will have some special, long-lasting, professional pictures to look back on in years to come.
Since those early days I have photographed weddings in Italy, USA and Mexico, not forgetting Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Oxfordshire, Essex, Yorkshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
My aim is to photograph the special moments and story of your wedding day in an unobtrusive way as possible. If I can help you with that do get in touch. It would be great to hear from you.
ABOUT THE WEDDING
During the wedding day I will be there to capture the story of your day, from preparations to the first dance. I will always try to be as unobtrusive as possible. Bride and groom preparations often make great pictures. There’s no obligation to have these but many people do. Sometime after the ceremony I will take you both away to a quiet and hopefully scenic spot for a short period of time to get images of you both together. The more natural the photos the better. A few might be posed but don’t worry if you never done this before – I’ll make it as easy as fun as possible. When planning your wedding, it’s always advisable to leave enough time to do this before the wedding breakfast.
For destination weddings and as an added extra for UK weddings, I like to get the opportunity to photograph you both (or individually) the day or week before. An informal session – possibly with the best man or bridesmaids – whatever you want. Fun pictures where you can all relax in front of the camera and have additional images for your wedding photo collection. On the wedding day itself you will be a little more relaxed in front of the camera.
It’s often nice to have a few group formal pictures – with parents, aunts and uncles etc. Formals can take up quite a large amount of time so it’s always better to limit them to, for example: bride and groom with the main bridal party, bride and groom with bride’s parents/ groom’s parents and bride and groom with close friends/other relatives. Of course, this isn’t set in stone and I aim to get what you want!
If the weather is bright and hot, it’s better to take photos of the couple in early evening light when the light will be softer. This can be done in addition to pictures right after the ceremony.
How do I book?.
A booking fee of £400 secures your wedding date along with a signed booking form. Dates can be busy – especially on summer weekends – so contact me to check your wedding date is available. The booking fee is subtracted from the total cost of the booked package. The remainder is due at least 7 days before the wedding date.
Can guests buy prints?.
Yes! An online gallery is always made available where people can buy prints from small to large, view a slideshow and more (also see New Wedding Galleries post).
I like to keep a simple pricing structure so you know exactly what you’re getting and have the option to pay for exactly what you need. Prices start from £500 for weekday weddings and from £1100 for weekend ones. This includes all day coverage, which means from bridal preparations through to after first dance, an unlimited number of photos taken throughout your wedding day, images edited professionally in colour and monochrome, high resolution digital files of all edited images from your day (for personal use), private online gallery plus your wedding photographs on CD or USB drive and 100 (5X7) prints. High season dates will usually be more expensive unless there’s a cancellation.
Albums and Books
We can do both. Wedding books are very popular and start from about £400.
